OK so I know I’m (super) late to the game just learning about this now - but I saw a commercial for this today and thought it was incredibly smart.
This small piece of hardware, created by mobile payment company called Square, connects to a headphone jack and allows a smartphone or tablet to collect and process credit card data.
The hardware and software are free, but Square takes a 2.75 % cut of every transaction. Yes, it’s a slightly higher percentage than traditional payment processors; but the convenience is hard to beat. Dog walkers, yoga instructors, private tutors, small business owners, and etc. can easily collect payment with this from customers who don’t like to carry cash.
Awesome. I might just grab one for myself so that anyone who owes me pays up!
